Firmware updates (BIOS UEFI and EC) are available for Mesa 3 Windows model units. For details regarding changes in each version, see the release notes documents.

WARNING: The installer below is for Mesa 3 Windows model units and some OEM brand models that do not have pre-installed firmware customizations. If a different brand appears during boot on the unit, please contact that brand partner to obtain the custom firmware update. If you are unsure where to obtain the custom firmware for your brand and model device, please contact support@junipersys.com for assistance. Also, you must follow the instructions below exactly as written. Failure to follow these steps could result in the unit needing to be shipped to a certified repair center for servicing.

Installation instructions:

  1. Attach a stable external power source (such as the 30W wall charger that was provided with the unit).
  2. Download and copy the above M3Updater_UEFI_135_EC_116.exe file to the Mesa 3 Windows unit.
  3. Remove any external storage device (USB media) that you may have attached to the Mesa 3 or dock.
  4. Save and close any open files and running programs. Backup any critical data from the Mesa 3 before proceeding as a precaution.
  5. Run the M3Updater_UEFI_135_EC_116.exe file on the Mesa 3. When a black terminal (command prompt) window appears, you may need to press the Return keypad button or an on-screen keyboard button to continue.
  6. Wait while the app starts the update process which might involve multiple Restarts (or reboots). After each Restart the update app will be automatically launched.
Note: If you have a pin or password set up, you may need to enter it after each Restart and wait 10-15 seconds to continue.
  7. It should take up to 20 minutes to update the firmware from an earlier version. When the app stops performing updates, follow the on-screen prompts.
  8. Verify that the firmware has been updated successfully by tapping on the Windows (Start) button > Device Info to check that the BIOS Version (UEFI) is now 1.35 as well as the Embedded Controller (EC) version is now 1.16 in that window.

Sometime Juniper devices may not boot JunOS properly. The image might be corrupted. So you need to re-install the JunOS of the EX or SRX device from the loader prompt. It is always good idea to have a USB snapshot of the JunOS device. But if you don’t have backup then you have to re install JunOS from loader prompt using USB media.

Install JunOS From Loader

Step 1. Download the required JunOS and copy to USB flash drive. If the USB size is less than 2 GB then the file format must be FAT. Similarly, if the USB is greater than or equal to 4 GB, use FAT32 file system format.

Step 2. Now insert the flash into USB port of the Juniper device.

Step 3. Then, reboot the device. When JunOS boots up,press SPACE BAR on your keyboard to get into loader prompt. At the boot process hit SPACE BAR key when the following message is displayed,

Press Space to abort autobootDo nothing. A little while later, you will see:
Hit [Enter] to boot immediately, or space bar for command
prompt.
Press the space bar. You will be at loader mode; the prompt should
be loader>. If the prompt is > , type >boot to make it loader>.

Step 4. After hitting the SPACE BAR, you will notice the loader prompt. Now type the following command:

loader> install file:///jinstall-ex-2200-11.4R11.4-domestic-signed.tgz

Wait for a while, the installation file will be copied to the device and and start the installation process. The device will reboot after the installation is complete.
